According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), every American produces about 4.9 pounds of waste per day — a figure that is quite shocking.

So, it’s understandable that people are becoming more concerned and making easy switches in their daily products to help reduce waste.

From bath and body products to items for your home, we’ve rounded up some of the best eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic and chemical-filled products.

Eco-friendly bath and body products

One of the easiest eco-friendly switches is your shampoo and conditioner.

Instead of buying huge, plastic bottles that will end up in landfills across the country, you can now opt for shampoo and conditioner in solid bar form. With this set, not only will you get your shampoo and conditioner, but also two bamboo holders to store them in your bathroom.

The formula is hydrating, volumizing and ideal for normal to damaged hair.

Sick of using cotton pads to take off your makeup? With this reusable makeup-erasing cloth, you’ll save money and resources in the long run.

This patented makeup cloth is antibacterial, and made to be used with just water, making it ideal for sensitive or allergen-prone skin. We love that it’s double-sided, with one side to remove makeup and the other to exfoliate the skin.

This is the perfect product for those looking to be more eco-conscious as just one MakeUp eraser is the equivalent to a whopping 3,600 makeup wipes and can be machine washed up to 1,000 times.

With an estimated 23 billion toothbrushes thrown away each year, it’s no surprise people are looking to make a more eco-friendly switch.

This toothbrush from SURI is one of our favorite eco-friendly switches. Impressively, the brush isn’t sealed shut, so you can send the company the body and they’ll repair the battery or motor, so you don’t need to replace the whole toothbrush frequently. You can even return your brush heads in a prepaid mailer for them to recycle.

And with features like a 40-day battery life, 33,000 sonic vibrations, mirror mount and UV-C light travel case, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this toothbrush.

When used regularly, skincare products need to be replaced often, leading to a lot of plastic packaging going to landfill.

However, with this Kiehl’s set, you won’t need to replace your tub again. This comes with a regular tub and a refill bag (made with over 60% less packaging) that’s sure to last you a while — and you can even buy just the refill bag after you’ve finished your first.

Even better, the Ultra Facial Cream from Kiehl’s is one of the best moisturizers on the market, with a fragrance and paraben-free formula, and a perfect combatant against dryness.

When it comes to eco-friendly deodorant, Wild is the one that pops into our minds.

The fun pink applicator is made from durable aluminum and recycled plastic that will last a lifetime, meaning you’ll only ever need to buy refills.

The deodorant is made of all-natural ingredients — and this scent blends sweet notes of jasmine with fresh notes of mandarin blossom, so you’re sure to smell sweet all day long. Plus, it’s aluminum, paraben and sulfate-free!

For those looking for easy-to-use eco-friendly beauty products, look no further than this set from Axiology.

These multi-use crayons are suitable for eyes, lips and cheeks, meaning you can create a whole makeup look with just these tiny crayons. With a range of color palettes on offer, there’s sure to be one that compliments every skin tone.

They’re 100% vegan, cruelty-free and free from palm oils, making them perfect for eco-conscious consumers.

Unbeknownst to many, not all sunscreens are safe to wear in the ocean. That’s why we think it’s super important to know what ingredients to avoid if you’re going into the deep blue.

This reef-safe sunscreen from Thrive is perfect — with SPF50, this is sure to protect your skin even on the hottest summer days. It’s nourishing, less greasy than most sunscreens and has minimal white cast, making it perfect for everyone.

Its packaging uses recycled plastic and each purchase helps support rural farmers who work with regenerative farming.

Eco-friendly household products

Picking eco-friendly cleaning products can be tricky — you don’t want them to be so natural that they’re ineffective, but not so harsh that it’s harmful.

This one from Safely (founded by Kris Jenner and Emma Grede), harnesses the power of plants to cut through all your everyday grease and grime. It’s effective on most household surfaces like marble, hardwood, steel, porcelain and more, making it suitable for use in every room in the house.

Available in the Rise scent, you’ll notice fruity and floral notes that will leave your home smelling fresh.

In your journey for more eco-friendly products, you’ll want to switch to a more natural dish soap — after all, it will end up in the ocean.

This one uses Australian essential oils of lemon myrtle and mandarin to clean away grease and food from your plates, bowls and cookware. Free from artificial dyes, chemicals and fragrance, you can rest easy knowing you’re not washing harsh ingredients into the ocean.

The bottle is biodegradable too, so you can chuck it into your compost bin once it’s empty.

We think plastic wrap is one of the most needless forms of waste, since there are so many alternatives — and one of our favorite alternatives is using beeswax wraps.

Beeswax wraps are incredibly strong and flexible, can be molded to fit any container and keep your food fresh and covered. They also last six to eight months when taken care of, which will majorly reduce and eliminate the need for plastic wrap.

Plus, they come in super cute designs, adding a bit of fun to your fridge.

They’re made from all-natural ingredients so they’re more sustainable and better for the environment (both in production and in use).

metal straw set

We’ve all seen ‘save the turtles’ campaigns when it comes to plastic straws — but if you’re one of the few people that hasn’t made the switch to metal/silicone/paper straws, then now is the time.

We love this set of metal straws as it comes in four different types — straight and bent and in two different lengths, so they’re ideal for every kind of cup or glass. They also come with two cleaning brushes, which is also perfect for cleaning all your other straws and bottle caps.
